III. RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

  Type of Recruitment Initiative
(Menu Selection)
Brief Description of Activity

1 Participate in Career Fair On April 26, 2019, our SEU participated in a career fair at Three Rivers Community College. Our SEU’s promotions director attended this event. On October 28, 2019, our SEU participated in the career fair at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in conjunction with the Day Publishing Company and the Eastern CT Chamber of Commerce.  Our SEU’s VP/Market Manager attended this event and provided attendees with information about careers in broadcasting and advertising.
2 Internship Program Our SEU hosted an internship program that is designed to assist members of our community to acquire and develop the skills necessary for broadcast employment.  The day-to-day activities of the internship program remain fluid to accommodate each intern’s individual interests.

In order to participate in this Program, interns must be enrolled in an academic program that encourages this kind of participation and provides academic credit for the time they spend as an intern.

Our SEU’s Promotions Director oversees the Program, monitoring each intern’s progress and providing progress reports about performance to his or her respective school.

All student interns are exposed to the general operations of the stations and receive instruction in studio operation, digital editing, commercial production, voice technique, copy-writing for sales, sales proposals, social media management, promotional duties, equipment set-up, etc.  The training provided through the internship program exposes interns to the basics necessary for entry-level employment in the broadcast radio industry.

During this reporting period our SEU hosted one (1) student interns as follows:

January 2019-May 2019 – one (1) student from Waterford High School

3 Job Shadow Our SEU hosted students from Mitchell College on April 4, 2019. Students had a chance to speak to various employees and ask questions about their particular job functions at the radio station.  Our SEU also hosted a group of students from Waterford High School on 2/5/19.
